The green heart: bike region

An old cycling saying goes: “Get on your bike and happiness awaits!” You might think it was written for biking in Merano and Tirolo, with its well-developed network of cycle paths. The landscapes are as diverse as the bike regions – full of variety and discoveries, like the areas around Monte San Vigilio, Avelengo, Verano, Merano 2000, Laces in the Val Venosta, and the Hirzer area.

  • Glorenza
… is not just a perfect stopover for those cycling along the Via Claudia Augusta, but also a real highlight in itself. The charming medieval town is the smallest city in South Tyrol – a true hidden gem for explorers!
  • Churburg Castle
… perched above Sluderno and one of the best-preserved castles in South Tyrol. Particularly impressive is the armoury, which houses the largest collection of its kind, including imposing armours that are over 2 metres tall and weigh up to 50 kg.
  • Prader Sand Biotope
… one of the last floodplain landscapes in South Tyrol. This protected area provides a haven for endangered bird species and aquatic wildlife.
  • Lasa
… the Val Venosta village is famous for its white gold, Lasa marble, renowned beyond regional borders (including at the subway station at Ground Zero, New York). It is also known for its Val Venosta apricot cultivation (whether any apricots have made it to New York remains unknown)
